Inflation in Malta keeps ticking higher than the EU’s average

According to the latest release by the NSO, inflation in Malta keeps ticking higher than the EU’s average with an annual inflation rate of 2.7% recorded in August, higher than 2.5% recorded in July as measured by the HCIP. The Euro area’s average inflation rate as per the HCIP was at around 2% in August in line with the ECB’s expectations.

Inflation increase was highest in the restaurants and catering industry, indicating seasonality but was also followed by food prices which has been rising consistently in Malta.

Currently, the rising cost of food is one of the most common issues discussed by Maltese residents having been so far a major source for the rise in cost of living.
