Learning Support Assistants take industrial action

The Union of Professional Educators have announced work-to-rule industrial action following protests that the Ministry of Education is refusing to acknowledge and recongise the trade union.

In a separate statement, the union said that the Minister of Education and his Permanent Secretary are too busy addressing the management crisis they have created at MCAST instead of addressing industrial issues. The union added that in a normal democracy, following the MCAST scandal, the Minister and his permanent secretary should have resigned.

Part of the directives for the LSEs include no student-replacements and no new LSEs transfers. Union President Graham Sansone insisted that their concerns should have been addressed before the opening of the new scholastic year that will start next week.

  1. While it is everyone’s right to be heard, and to protest, and to take industrial action – a little bit of more common sense would have been wiser. They had a whole summer to iron things out….NOW they call an industrial action.
