Alex Borg reveals his hand by appointing the wife of a major construction speculator as party’s CEO

Alex Borg’s appointment of Sabine Agius Cabourdin as the Nationalist Party’s CEO came as a surprise, but everything is now falling into place and starting to make sense.

Sabine Agius Cabourdin is married to a major property speculator who specifically has strong ties with the Church and was involved in a series of Church land deals. The husband of Sabine Agius Cabourdin is Neville Agius and he is a major property speculator and also a popular art collector.

Judging by her Facebook history, Sabine Agius Cabourdin has supported Alex Borg for some time and was clearly on his team before the leadership race. Borg has been accused of having close ties with the construction lobby, and this is the closest link identified so far.

In a recent meeting with NGOs, Alex Borg said that he wants to reduce the dependency of the political parties from the construction lobby.

    At first glance, you would be right to bring up the facts that you did.

    However, if you start scratching the surface, you will start to realise that the categories in which you have bundled the subjects of your article do not match.

    He is not your typical Maltese property developer/speculator. He is well-educated and refined. The projects he invests in add real tangible value to urban development.

    He does not build apartment block after apartment block – masses of concrete and just about acceptable finishes to cash in.

    The overwhelming majority of properties he has developed from scratch stand out for their architectural and aesthetic design, their balanced shapes and proportions, and the enhancing of the urban environment within the social and historical context where they have been built.

    He increasingly invests in historical properties, restoring and renovating them, giving them a new lease of life and repurposing their functionality, relevant to the requirements of today, at great expense, with less profitability than non-descript apartment blocks, targeting more discerning end-users.

    He is on the other end of the spectrum of the Joe Portelli’s of this world. You should interview him to find out the extent he has contributed to raising the bar in local property development.

    That she is his wife is a pure coincidence. She is an achiever in her own right and whoever knows her, knows that her integrity is one of her greatest qualities.

    You should interview her too.

    They are successful through hard and honest work and thanks to their ethics and principles.

    I would hate to think that your left-leaning sympathies have motivated any antagonistic currents towards real entrepreneurship and success through hard work.
