The United States of America is accelerating the pace of its decline to authoritarianism with the recent commemoration of Charlie Kirk drawing calls by President Trump and his underlings to step up their fight against their adversaries. President Trump also said during the Charlie Kirk memorial event that he hates his opponents and doesn’t want the best for them.
President Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff also made an acerbic discourse riling the crowd against Trump’s political adversaries, which reminded historians of Joseph Goebbels 1932 speech “The Storm is Coming,”. In his speech, Stephen Miller said that “we” (Republicans) are the source of civilisation – a trope also commonly used by Nazi propaganda and Joseph Goebbels.
In his speech Joseph Goebbels said these exact words which were very similar to Miller’s trope.

You, men, women and comrades, are the bearers, witnesses, builders and finishers of this unique people’s uprising. Our policies have not been popular. We have served the truth, and only the truth. The assassination of Charlie Kirk has prompted a new wave of authoritarian discourse by President Trump as he accused the media of fomenting hatred against him and Republicans. Meanwhile, previous President Barack Obama made a contrasting statement during an interview saying that during a crisis, a US President has to mention the things that bind American citizens together. President Trump, however, is using Charlie Kirk’s assassination to hit at his opponents, starting from AntiFa groups by designating them as “terrorists”.
The text that was published to designate AntiFa as terrorist seems to be aimed at protestors who try to disrupt operations by ICE. Riots broke out earlier this year in California when ICE officers unexpectedly raided the streets of the State of California in search for illegal immigrants. President Trump also deployed up to 500 Marines to the streets of Los Angeles but eventually failed to deploy due to logistical issues.
AntiFa is not a specific group, but rather an ideological and political description used to describe the politics of an “Anti-Fascist”. Europe has a very strong anti-fascist and AntiFa tradition that goes back to the Second World War with resistance fighters who opposed Nazi rule and occupation in Europe.

Section 1. Antifa as a Terrorist Threat. Antifa is amilitarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States Government, law enforcement authorities, and our system of law.
It uses illegal means to organize and execute a campaign of violence and terrorism nationwide to accomplish these goals. This campaign involves coordinated efforts to obstruct enforcement of Federal laws through armed standoffs with law enforcement, organized riots, violent assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement officers, and routine doxing of and other threats against political figures and activists. Antifa recruits, trains, and radicalizes young Americans to engage in this violence and suppression of political activity, then employs elaborate means and mechanisms to shield the identities of its operatives, conceal its funding sources and operations in an effort to frustrate law enforcement, and recruit additional members. Individuals associated with and acting on behalf of Antifa further coordinate with other organizations and entities for the purpose of spreading, fomenting, and advancing political violence and suppressing lawful political speech. This organized effort designed to achieve policy objectives by coercion and intimidation is domestic terrorism.
Sec. 2. Designation as a Domestic Terrorist Organization.
Because of the aforementioned pattern of political violence designed to suppress lawful political activity and obstruct the rule of law, I hereby designate Antifa as a “domestic terrorist organization.” All relevant executive departments and agencies shall utilize all applicable authorities to investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations –especially those involving terrorist actions — conducted by Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa, or for which Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa provided material support, including necessary investigatory and prosecutorial actions against those who fund such operations. Sec. 3. General Provisions. (a) This order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law. This order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person. (b) This order shall be published in the Federal Register.
