Following Charlie Kirk’s murder at a public event in Utah Valley University, far-right political commentators got together on an online Twitter spaces hosted by Mario Mawfal in which the media and the free press were accused of fomenting violence and provoking the murder of Charlie Kirk. Tristan Tate chipped in by saying that the media is dehumanising Republicans. President Donald Trump echoed the same message saying that Charlie Kirk’s murder was provoked by the “far-left” and the media.
Charlie Kirk was murdered at a political debate among university students on campus: an activity he held often and which also enabled him to promote far-right and conservative politics with the US youth.
We unequivocally condemn political violence and the horrible murder of Charlie Kirk which should have not happened. Political violence should not be an option in a democratic society.
At the same time, Charlie Kirk has to be remembered as he was, and for his thoughts, and he leaves behind him a legacy of hatred against minorities, women, Palestinians, Muslims and Ukrainians. He exploited every grift on the right to become popular, and regularly made very controversial and provocative statements that were also very cruel. You can listen to his own words below.
