UPDATED: Prime Minister Robert Abela denied the Waxgate story when door-stepped by journalists last Friday.
We could confirm that the meeting between the Prime Minister and US President did take place briefly at the reception held at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. The Maltese delegation was escorted to the hotel by a resident diplomat. The Prime Minister said that he thanked President Trump’s efforts for brokering a peace agreement Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The story initially started as a viral meme that was quoted in the Australian press.
However we could not verify the images that have been published and widely circulated officially. The White House has been caught several times of using heavily edited imagery and video of the US President such as in this case with a heavily-edited video of the US President speaking at the Oval Office.

World leaders are being mocked for taking photos with wax-figures of President Donald Trump and the First Lady at the United Nations General Assembly. Malta’s Foreign Minister used a photo with the wax-figure to announce Malta’s nomination of the US President to the Nobel Peace Prize.
Prime Minister Robert Abela also took a photo with the figurine and shared it in his social media. The photos were also shared by the White House. Other leaders who took photos with the figures include Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Press reports state that the wax-figures were used as a replacement for President Trump due to a very long-list of attendees who could not fit in the schedule.
