Environmental NGOs announce national protest against planning reforms

Most of the environmental groups and NGOs in Malta held a press conference earlier today in front of the Planning Authority building in Floriana to announce a national protest against the government’s proposed planning reforms. The organisations include the Ramblers Association, Din L-art Ħelwa, Moviment Graffitti, BirdLife Malta and Nature Trust Malta. The protest will be held in Valletta next Saturday morning.

Environmental NGOs are describing the government’s planning reform as the most corrupt planning reform in history as the government plans to give unprecedented powers to flout environmental regulations. Meetings between NGO representatives and the Minister responsible for Planning, Clint Camilleri seem to have garnered no result whatsoever as NGOs are still pressing the government to withdraw its proposed bills.
