Leonid McKay has written a very bizarre message on his social media profile saying that intends to publicly debate the Nationalist Party’s CEO and that this is part of his job. Clearly, Labour Party officials don’t even understand what their roles entail and this is surely another reason why Labour is rapidly degenerating in every aspect.
Leonid McKay, one of Alex Agius Saliba’s canvassers, was appointed the Labour Party CEO as part the Prime Minister’s concessions to Joseph Muscat to allow Muscat’s allies have more influence and power over the party. Leonid McKay replaced Randolph Debattista who was from the anti-Muscat camp.
The role of the party’s CEO is purely administrative, which entails discretion as a rule, but Leonid McKay is doing the opposite. He is giving political statements and even appearing at Labour Party press conferences acting like the party’s spokesperson.
There are many obvious reasons as to why the CEO is separated from politics to focus purely on administrative duties, and it is why the Labour Party (Joseph Muscat) abolished the role of the Secretary-General to replace it with the role of CEO. Now, we have gone back to the days of the Jason Azzopardi Secretary-General era where the Party’s CEO is just another political propaganda prop.
The only thing that party CEO should be speaking about are his KPIs, which he should be divulging exclusively to the Deputy-Party Leader of Party Affairs and the rest of the Party’s leadership administration when required. Nothing makes any sense with Labour any more.
