Living in a small society with barely any competition in whatever they do has made some people in Malta believe they are geniuses. But the Dunning–Kruger effect could not be more evident than in those who think they could run the world perfectly if only they were given just a little bit of power.
Some people had very strong opinions about Malta nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. They said that resident Trump was a very bad man and didn’t deserve the prize. This is very true, and on Gaza, President Trump has forced a peace in a war which was in many ways his own making after President Trump gave Israel many concessions, including heavy bombs, emboldening it to breach the first ceasefire plan that was brokered by President Joe Biden.
Yet, at the same time, we are not going to criticise Malta for nominating President Donald Trump to the peace prize. We’re sorry to break the news to you that Malta is not the United Nations or the International Criminal Court of Human Rights – we are neither a European power that can bang its fist on international tables.
There are very specific reasons why the Minister for Foreign Affairs has proposed President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize and these reasons probably have to do with an energy deal that the Foreign Minister is trying to get from the US government. Ultimately, we don’t know why this was done. You don’t know, we don’t know, and no one knows. So, in reality, we can not make any judgement on why this was done and whether it would bring any effective results in Malta’s foreign strategy.
The Maltese government is not an NGO and the Minister of Foreign Affairs doesn’t do politics based on your left-wing activism. The government must do whatever is in our best interests and strategically position itself to secure trade, economic, and security deals to its advantage. The Foreign Minister is serving Malta’s interests and he is not a human rights activist.
At the end of the day, what this international saga has shown is that the Nobel Peace Prize isn’t a serious thing, and anyone who is taking it seriously is wasting time. The Nobel Peace Prize lost all of its credibility when President Barack Obama won the prize just for being Obama. If President Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, by the same measure and standards, President Trump is at least ten-times more deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize.
So, on your angry and virtuous opinion about Malta nominating President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, I advise you to curb your enthusiasm: you have no idea what you are talking about.
