It’s mostly conservative and reactionary parties that induce alarm and fear in the populace over the unknown. The Labour Party is changing ever more into a conservative party of the past. Previously, the Labour Party passed laws that were actually in the national interest as opposed to its current policy of prioritising the privileges of specific groups over the national interest.
In 2016 the Labour government passed the Public Domain Act XXV which enacted all of Malta’s coastline as public domain. This law was never properly enforced but it shows that the Labour Party did try to, and at least, project of sense of national interest in its policies and legislation.
Today, the Labour Party has raised irrational fears with reactionary posturing over a law that is, in essence, similar in principle and in the national interest to the Public Domain Act XXV.
