Inflation rises in Europe in the month of September: Malta’s inflation rate goes lower but still higher than Eurozone’s average

Inflation according to the Consumer Price Index, has rose in the Euro area for the first-time in several months after ticking up to an average of 2.2% from its previous monthly rate of 2% according to the latest Eurostat figures. Malta retained a higher than average-rate in the Euro-area of 2.4%. Inflation in the EU is at an average of 2.6%.

Highest inflation rate increases were recorded in Romania with 8.6% Estonia with 5.3% and Slovakia and Croatia with both 4.6%. The lowest inflation increases were recorded in Cyprus with 0% inflation, France with 1.1%, andย Greece and Italy with both 1.8%.

Malta had an inflation rate of 2.4% in September according to the readings of the NSO, down from its 2.7% level in August. Inflation in Malta is still being constantly buoyed by the rise in food prices and restaurant prices.
