According to the latest statistics by the NSO, the retail price index has confirmed last week’s reading of the consumer price index showing that inflation in Malta has slowed down in September but food prices kept going up. Inflation dropped from 2.7% in August to 2.4% in September with food coming in the second place with a 3.9% annual increase and other items at 4.1%.
Other items include jewelry, household goods, veterinary services and also financial services. The gold price also rose significantly in the month of September explaining the rise in jewelry prices. Food price inflation in Malta has been consistent throughout year pushing Malta’s inflation rate above the Euro average of 2.2% according to the CPI. The Euro-average prior to the month of September was at 2%.
