The media arm of the General Workers’ Union, Talk News (talk.mt), has uploaded a promotional clip of the interview with Keith Schembri, by the latest prime-time host of the public broadcaster, Ricky Caruana. For the record, the interview will appear on the host’s private podcast, as part of his reputation-laundering series of episodes for Malta’s politicians with criminal baggage.
Keith Schembri was literally in jail over the Progress Press case, which has been disrupted since the Prosecutor and the Police officials working on the case are no longer at their posts and have moved on with other jobs.
Daphne Caruana Galizia investigated him extensively thanks to the Panama Papers leak and had revealed how Keith Schembri, Konrad Mizzi and also (allegedly) Joseph Muscat, opened companies in Panama connected with bank accounts in other countries such as the UAE to launder illicit proceeds from various corrupt government deals, but especially the Electrogas deal. Keith Schembri was also investigated over his bank account in Pilatus Bank which he used for payments related to suspected bribes from Maltese passport sales.
Keith Schembri was the prime enabler and organiser of the corruption surrounding Joseph Muscat and his inner circle and he is also suspected to have acted in his name, in every important decision he did: they were best friends and are still close friends. Both Joseph Muscat and and his successor, Robert Abela, have given the false impression that whatever Keith Schembri did that is suspected to be illicit, was done behind Joseph Muscat’s back. Supposedly, Joseph Muscat never knew.
Now, we are going a step further though as Keith Schembri tries, to somehow, explain how his interference with the investigation on the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia and his Panama companies were all legitimate and he never did anything illicit.
Believing Keith Schembri is like keeping a poisonous snake as a pet roaming freely in the house: there has been in Maltese politics no other political functionary more repugnantly corrupt as Keith Schembri. His only befitting commemoration would be if the State buries him together with Joseph Muscat in a designated tomb, paid with their funds, in a monument that represents Malta’s victory over corruption.
Keith Schembri greased his way into major government deals like a massive parasite that not only sticks, but leaves behind a trail of devastation and premium payments – all borne by the taxpayer. He tried to maximum extract for his personal benefit from every major government deal he had his hands on and literally hung-out with a coked-fueled murder suspect as he sent his Police-officers-friends to protect him. He and his friends hated journalists and for a very good and obvious reason.
Not even John Dalli reached this level of deranged behaviour – only Keith Schembri could do it. The worst thing that has ever happened to Maltese politics.
Note that the General Workers’ Union media arm is also subsidised by the government.
