Centrist party D66 has won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands with up to 16.7% of the vote, narrowly beating its far-right competitor, the Party for Freedom (PVV), with up to 1600 votes. The leader of D66, Rob Jetten is set to become the youngest Prime Minister of Netherlands at just 38 years-old.
The Netherlands resorted to parliamentary elections after the coalition government in June collapsed. A left-right centrist coalition was in government when the PVV, the party of Geert Wilders was the most popular party in Dutch politics, but support for it has waned down since then.
D66 has won the elections with a social-liberal manifesto and pledged to build 10 new cities and 1 million new homes in five years to address the problems of the housing market. The party also pledged to enhance democracy, security and addressed climate change issues while ensuring economic fairness.
