A new Russian vessel as Prime Minister: Geert Wilders

Far-right and pro-Russian politician Geert Wilders has just been elected Prime Minister of the Netherlands. He is popular in Europe for his inflammatory anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim views. What is less known about him is that his party, Party for Freedom (PVV) has been funded and supported by the Russian state, and Wilders has a connection with Eduardovich Slutskiy, the Russian government MP entrusted with roping in European political parties into Russia’s fold. Wilders also took a pro-Russian position when Russia invaded Crimea.

His election campaign was mainly centered on the demand of ensuring that the Dutch state takes care of and spends money on its own citizens rather than helping immigrants.
