Closing off his career as a judge, Judge Toni Abela described our journalistic work as terrorism. He then supposedly retired and went on a Labour Party media tour to galvanise support among Labour Party supporters. The impression he gave was that he intended to contest the elections.
Even better: Judge Toni Abela has now been given a major role โ he will be appointed the first Judicial Standards Commissioner.
His daughter has just been handed a government role as well.
Malta’s new Judicial Commissioner was rejected from serving at the European Court over a case in which he covered-up for Labour Party club barman over a block of cocaine found at the bar. You can read the story about it here. The story was published by Daphne Caruana Galizia.
We are obviously appealing his sentence. As for his appointment, I find the appointment totally contrary to any imaginable standard possible.
