US Treasury sanctions Colombian mercenaries in Sudan: Colombian parliament approves law outlawing mercenaries

The US Treasury has sanctioned four Colombian-owned companies and several Colombian individuals for providing military and technical services to the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan including technical support in using drones.

The companies sanctioned include International Services Agency (A4SI), Global Staffing, Comercializadora San Bendito and Maine Global Corp. Individuals who have been sanctioned include Alvaro Andres Quijano Becerra, Claudia Viviana Oliveros Forero, Mateo Andresย Duque Botero(also a Spanish national), and Monica Muรฑoz Ucros.

Last week, the Colombian parliament also approved a law banning the practice of mercenaryism, with the law now expected to be ratified by the Colombian President soon. On a recent tour to the Near East, President Gustavo Petro announced that Colombia is opposed to sending its men to fight in conflicts abroad and will be addressing the problem soon. The Colombian President also accused mercenary recruiters of being funded by the mafia and that the government will be coming after them.

Colombian mercenaries played an important role in the capture of Al-Fashir by the Rapid Support Forces where the UAE-backed genocidal group committed war crimes and ethnic cleansing. Sightings of Colombian mercenaries travelling to Sudan were reported as last October.
