EU to set up Special Commission at The Hague to seek claims and financial damages from Russia

During today’s EU Council Meeting it was concluded that a special commission will be set up at the Hague to seek claims and financial damages from Russia from the International Criminal Court and other relevant institutions. The claims will be paid from Russia’s frozen assets. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas said that it has up to 80,000 claims from Ukrainian citizens for damage to their property.

The decision resolves an impasse at the EU Council over the use of frozen Russian assets but it does not address the urgent need for Ukraine to cover a โ‚ฌ140 billion budget shortfall for the next two years.

The EU Council has also agreed on sanctioning further 40 vessels of the Russian shadow fleet and also several individuals linked to Rosneft and Lukoil.

This article will be updated with further details.
