The recently-appointed head of MI6, Blaise Metreweli, has issued her first public statement outlining the growing dangers of Russian belligerence and stressing the risks posed by the ongoing diplomatic talks over the US-Kremlin Pact on Ukraine. The head of Britain’s secret intelligence services said that the agency remains committed in defending the security of every British national in the backdrop of growing threats that include, technological disruption, hybrid threats, terrorism and information manipulation.
Blaise Metreweli described Russia’s threat as ย โaggressive, expansionist, and revisionistโ. She added that “The export of chaos is a feature not a bug in the Russian approach to international engagement, and we should be ready for this to continue until Putin is forced to change his calculus.”
She also highlighted that expertise and fluency in technology and coding is a must in today’s environment. She mentioned the coding language Python in particular.
Public statements by the head of the British secret intelligence services are very unusual especially when these statements involve matters relating to ongoing international political and diplomatic talks. The fact that the head of the agency felt compelled to give a public statement indicates genuine and serious concern about growing risks.
Meanwhile, the EU has continued sanctioning further Russian vessels and will be taking up claims of financial damages by Ukraine to the International Criminal Court with a special commission.
