Zarah Sultana and Tommy Robinson have a lot more in common than they would like to admit. After the Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton warned that British people need to prepare for a potential war against Russia, and the public statement by the MI6 Chief warning about the growing threats posed by Russia, a new online campaign has begun by the far-right and the far-left in Britain with both of them declaring they will not be fighting for “you” – with “ou” supposedly referring to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the Labour government.
Far-left activists, particularly those in the UK who have supported protests in support of Palestine, also share Tommy Robinson’s views about a potential war against Russia. This new political campaign, spearhead by Robinson (actual name is Stephen Yaxley) frames a war against Russia as “a war to protect the local elites” – a talking point which is taken directly from a very traditional and classical Soviet Union playbook. The Soviet Union has a very long history of spreading communist propaganda in Western countries which consistently blamed “Western elites” for global problems (including war) and enticed people across the world to revolt against their governments and for their countries to join the “peaceful” and “development and peace focused” sphere of influence of the Soviet Union. ย This is also the same playbook that Russia runs today as it promotes itself to the world (especially to the Global South) along with its much stronger ally, China.
About NATO and war against Russia, the new far-left political leader in the UK, Zarah Sultana, promotes the same underlying message that Tommy Robinson and the far–right are promoting right now. Both agree that the UK should have normal and stable relations with Russia, a proposal also being made by the US government. None of them support Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion and its ongoing genocide against Ukrainians in the occupied territories.
Note that Tommy Robinson hides his money outside the UK and is accused of receiving foreign funding, despite his claims in the UK that he is bankrupt.
