President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree requiring Ukrainians in Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine to exchange their Ukrainian passports for Russian ones. Ukrainians in these occupied territories have until September 10 to comply, and failure to do so will result in eviction and exile. The decree coems after a telephone conversation between President Trump and President Putin on talks about peace.
The signed decree states that:
Ukrainian citizens residing in the Russian Federation without legal grounds for staying (residing) in the Russian Federation must either leave the Russian Federation independently by September 10, 2025, or resolve their legal status in the Russian Federation in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 1126 of December 30, 2024, “On Temporary Measures for Regulating the Legal Status of Certain Categories of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Russian Federation in Connection with the Application of Martial Law.”
