Russia fires up to 74 drones at Ukrainian cities targeting apartment buildings

Russia fired up to 74 drones and up to six missiles some of which hit apartment buildings in the city of Kropyvnytskyi. Ukrainian air defense intercepted most of them. Ukraine retaliated early this morning by striking at the Russia’s Engels-2 airbase in Saratov which is home to Russia’s Tu-95 and Tu-160 strategic bombers that are used to fire missiles at Ukrainian missiles.

Russia has been conducting daily attacks against Ukrainian cities, civilians, electricity infrastructure, school, hospitals and also theatres and cultural centres. These attacks were supposed to stop following a phone call between President Putin and President Trump as Putin supposedly agreed to a civilian infrastructure ceasefire. Ukraine on the other hand is being forced to stop its attacks on the Russian oil industry.

Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, who met with President Trump seral times to discuss the potential peace deal with Ukraine, defended President Putin and said that Putin is working in good faith. He also lied about Russia’s attacks against Ukrainian cities on Tuesday night saying that the attacks took place before the phone call. The attacks actually took place more than an hour after the phone call had ended.

Yesterday evening, President Zelensky spoke to President Trump where they discussed the US proposed ceasefire agreement. President Zelensky told President Trump that he agrees with a civilian infrastructure ceasefire. Russia originally opposed an immediate ceasefire on the frontlines and is making several demands including a halt of Western weapons provision to Ukraine and the recognition of its occupied territories in Ukraine.
