Russia struck Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, with ballistic missiles killing up to 16 people, including six children. Many others were injured. A missile hit an apartment block and a children’s playground. A thermal power plant in Kherson was also hit by a drone.
President Zelensky said that Russia knew what it was doing and that these strikes were intentional showing that diplomacy means nothing for Russia. President Trump initially claimed that Russia was had agreed on a civilian infrastructure ceasefire. Russia was also promised a “Black Sea ceasefire” after removing sanctions from its State Agriculture Bank. Russia has so far adhered to no ceasefire conditions that were announced by the President Trump.
In comments given to the press, his press secretary said that President Trump is frustrated with both leaders for failing to comply with his ceasefire conditions, shifting the blame equally on both countries. President Zelensky reiterated on several occasions that Ukraine was ready to accept US-proposed ceasefire conditions but Russia never made any commitments in public despite the White House’s insistence that Russia was adhering to a civilian ceasefire. Meanwhile, President Trump is mostly focused on pressuring Ukraine to sign a mineral rights deal.
