In an extensive investigation published earlier today, VSquare has revealed the deep collaboration between Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, particularly in coordinating lobbying efforts aimed at persuading the European Commission to delist sanctioned Russian individuals and companies.
In a recording released by VSquare, Szijjártó is heard receiving a request from Lavrov to lobby the European Union to remove Gulbakhor Ismailova, from the EU sanctions list. Szijjártó responds by stating that he had already submitted a request to the EU Commission along with the Slovaks. Gulbakhor Ismailova is the sister of Uzbek-Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, and the call was recorded on August 30th 2024.
Gulbakhor Burkhanovna Ismailova is sanctioned by the EU, the UK and the US, and has had listed her brother’s yacht in her name.
According to the extensive investigation by VSquare, the cooperation extended beyond a single case, involving broader efforts to influence EU sanctions policy in favour of Russian business interests, including attempts to shield oligarchs, companies, and financial institutions from restrictive measures imposed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The European far-right has a foreign policy of appeasement and active collaboration with Russia which is un unprecedented treasonous behaviour in European political history. The German far-right AFD party, has also been suspected of sharing sensitive defence, security and military information with the Russian authorities.
