President Volodomyr Zelensky and President Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago following discussions with their respective delegations. President Trump said that good progress was made in the discussions and that they were very near to achieving peace.
The discussions revolved around Ukraine and Europe’s counter-proposal to the US-Kremlin Pact.
President Zelensky agreed with President Trump and said that more discussions will be taking place on the details of the security guarantees. Prior to the start of the meeting, President Trump reiterated that the Europeans will be involved in the security guarantees to Ukraine. President Trump also said that he spoke with European leaders following his meeting with President Zelensky.
Prior to the meeting with President Zelensky, President Trump held a phone call with Vladimir Putin. When questioned about Russia’s attacks on civilians and cities, President Trump shrugged it off and said that Ukraine is also striking Russia. Ukraine is specifically striking the Russian oil industry apart from military targets in contrast to Russia that is deliberately targeting civilian and infrastructure.
President Trump also insisted that Ukraine may hold a referendum to accept providing territorial concessions to Russia. Territorial concessions remain the thorniest issue.
President Trump also confirmed that Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant may soon be fully online after a mediation deal brokered by the International Atomic Energy Agency brokered an arrangement between the Ukrainians and the Russian on the operation of the plant.
