During today’s meeting in Paris of the Coalition of the Willing, Greenland was also discussed on the sidelines by European leaders, due to ongoing threats of annexation by US President Donald Trump. European leaders have rejected President Trump’s calls for US annexation, but refused to answer any question about the issue during yesterday’s press conference.
Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney was in Paris for the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing and also met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The Canadian Prime Minister announced in Paris that Canada was opening a new consulate in Nuuk, Greenland and that it also supports Denmark’s sovereignty. Canada’s Foreign Minister Anita Anand also reiterated Canada’s support for Greenland’s and Denmark’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Canada only has an honorary consulate in Greenland but will not open a fully-operational consulate.
Canadian and European relations have strengthen ever since President Trump entered office and initiated disputes with his allies.
