Opposition and Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg released a video statement declaring that the foreign interference in Europe’s sovereignty over Greenland and Denmark is unacceptable and should not be tolerated. These threats he said threaten the international right to sovereignty. He did not explicitly condemn the United States of America which is the nation currently making the threats, however his position contrasts with that of the Prime Minister who refused to take a position.
Greenland’s future should be decided by the Greenlandic people he added.
The Opposition Leader also said that the pressure on Greenland is compromising stability and the Trans-Atlantic relationship and stated that foreign relations, including those between Europe and the US should be conducted via international treaties and regulations. He urged all international parties to uphold international law and existing treaties. Alex Borg added that he has instructed his MPs to open the debate in Parliament and urged the Government to support the Opposition’s position to send a message in favour of sovereignty and international law.
Europe’s far-right has also broken from President Donald Trump over his threats against Greenland and Denmark.
