European far-right politicians who have been strong supporters of Donald Trump are now changing their tune about him now that President Trump is threatening to invade Greenland. Yesterday at the European Parliament, the MEP and Frenchman posed replace Marine Le Pen, Jordan Bardella made a short discourse condemning Trump’s threats over Greenland and urging for European independence in defence matters. Another MEP also from the far-right grouping, Patriots Europe, Danish MEP Anders Vistisen told President Trump to “fuck-off”.
On the other side of the Channel, in an interview with GBN, Reform Party Leader Nigel Farage has also condemned President Trump for his position on Greenland and said that his antics threaten NATO. He also said that it is unacceptable for NATO allies to invade each other and that the dispute of Greenland should be resolved diplomatically between NATO members.
The German far-right leader whose main position and policy involves appeasement and the re-opening of trade with Russia, Alice Weidel had a more confusing position. She told her constituents in Germany that President Trump is violating his election promise by interfering in other countries, but she is also blaming her own government for what she describes as its failures over Greenland. Even in this issue, she also seems to be making her regular (and rather treasonous accusation) accusation that the German government is provoking a war. Alice Wiedel is being supported by Elon Musk.
Viktor Orbรกn did not condemn President Trump but said that the “Greenland issue” should be resolved indoors within NATO.
The European far-right has found itself in a very weak political position after having supported President Trump despite his very clear election campaign promises against Europe (Europe is robbing us etc…). The fart-right in Europe has consistently supported the empowerment of Russia and the USA at Europe’s xpense with a policy of national isolation that is supposedly in favour of sovereignty. With Trump threatening to capture Greenland by force, the European far-right is now taking refuge in European unity to safeguard European sovereignty and territorial integrity, and this is the same unity they have consistently criticised and attacked for supposedly taking away their national sovereignty.
