Storm Harry, which caused devastation in some coastal areas in Malta, has now moved to the east of the Mediterranean Sea with the weather in Malta moderating considerably. The weather is still cloudy with a gust of wind and some rain but the extreme conditions have now ended.
Devastation was mostly recorded in coastal towns such as Marsaskala and Marsaxlokk with many seas-side catering establishing being flooded. Fisherman and small-boat owners have also suffered considerable damages. Farmers have suffered damages to their green-houses and crops. No one was seriously hurt during the unusual weather episode as many heeded the authorities’ warnings to stay indoors. Malta was struck by an unusual bout of cold and stormy weather this month.
Yesterday in Parliament, the Opposition appealed the government to issue aid for those that suffered damages and the government has already committed itself to explore this possibility. MEP Alex Agius Saliba said that he wants to the EU to issue recovery funds for member-states afflicted with natural disasters.
Libya was also struck by the storm with the eastern parts of the country also being severely affected. Footage below comes from Benghazi.
