President Volodymyr Zelensky received a standing ovation at Davos. The Ukrainian President was also given a warm welcome by Swiss residents when he arrived at the embassy of Ukraine.
In his speech, President Zelensky urged Europe to fulfill its agreement over the Special Tribunal for war crimes in Ukraine and start setting it up. He also urged Europe to stand strong against aggression and take action. Europe often plans for the future but faisl to take the necessary acvtion in the present he said.
President Zelensky said that Ukraine is working honestly to arrive to a peace agreement with Russia and Russia is still opposing the peace agreement it was offered. He also urged the US to provide security guarantees to Ukraine. The US is refusing to offer security guarantees to Ukraine in case Russia attacks.
President Zelensky also menti0ned Greenland in his speech and said that Europe is giving the wrong signal by sending up to 40 troops in the Arctic territory. He said that this shows weakness to Russia and China and that Europe needs to be more assertive. The Ukrainian President also said that Ukraine can contribute to Greenland’s security given its experience of sinking Russian ships in the Black Sea.
The Ukrainian President also urged Europe to clamp down on the Russian shadow-fleet after the US started confiscating Russian oil-tankers. He also urged the US, Europe and Taiwan to stop sending electronic components to Russia.
Ukrainian is currently suffering prolonged black-outs under freezing conditions after Russia destroyed its power and electric infrastructure with missile and drone attacks.
US President Donald Trump also met with President Zelensky in Davos and said he had a good meeting with him but no details were released.
