Nearly 700 emergency incidents were reported across the country over the past few days as extreme weather conditions, with winds reaching Force 9, affected Malta.
Between 19th January and Wednesday 21st, the Disciplined Forces responded to a wide range of situations. The Civil Protection Department handled 502 cases, including fallen trees, unstable billboards, electrical hazards, fires, fuel spills, and other weather-related dangers.
The Police Force assisted in 86 incidents, involving people trapped in vehicles, cars swept by floodwaters, and obstructions caused by fallen objects, trees, construction material, and damaged structures. The Armed Forces of Malta supported civil protection efforts, conducted maritime operations related to incidents at sea, and intervened in four additional cases. LESA responded to 74 traffic collision incidents.
Authorities implemented precautionary measures earlier in the week and maintained readiness throughout the storm. Despite hundreds of damage reports, no major or fatal incidents were recorded. Emergency services reported responsible use of the 112 emergency number.
Cleanup and restoration efforts are ongoing, with authorities continuing to address remaining hazards. The public is being urged to remain cautious, particularly on roads and in coastal areas, as rough sea conditions persist despite an improvement in weather.
