Deborah Schembri, the previous Planning Parliamentary Secretary is set to be fielded once again in the Twelfth District (Saint Paul’s Bay and Mellieħa) by the Labour Party, putting more pressure on the disgraced ex-Minister Clayton Bartolo. Party sources confirm that this set-up is intentional to oust Clayton Bartolo from Parliament.
The other major Labour candidate on the same district putting pressure on Clayton Bartolo is incumbent Justice Minister Jonathan Attard.
The Labour government is protecting Clayton Bartolo from prosecution but simultaneously wants to remove him from the political scene due to embarrassment and to avoid further political fallback from his scandals. This party policy has been applied to most of the Labour Party politicians accused of corruption.
Deborah Schembri lost her seat in Parliament in 2017 partly due to Clayton Bartolo. She has been regularly featured on the Labour Party’s media during the past few weeks.
