Ukraine drones Russian LNG-tanker outside Maltese waters

The sanctioned Russian LNG-tanker, Arctic Metagaz, was destroyed with a drone attack outside Hurd’s Bank in the eastern direction according to its latest position on Vessel Finder. This is not the first time that Russian-linked vessels travelling in the maritime neighbourhood were targeted.

The incident happened around 300KM off the Maltese coast.

Although Ukraine is believed to have been responsible for the attack, no one took responsibility.

Arctic Metagaz was sailing with a Russian flag and was en route to Port Said in Egypt.

The Armed Forces of Malta dispatched a rescue team for crew-members stranded on the vessel and sea after the vessel took alight. All crew-members were found safe.

Our risk report published last December warned of impending security risks and attacks on oil tankers and Russian vessels in Maltese waters and Hurd’s Bank.
