What has transpired from our ongoing investigation into the drug traffickers of Armier is a sub-plot that has all the characteristics of a Sopranos-style organised crime narrative.
Alan Muscat (Galletta), who hides himself behind his father and brother who run his companies, is a typical Maltese-gangster with a life of crime that was covered-up by a cleaning and a waste collection business. He also owns a highly irregular catering establishment.
He was for years provided with exceptionally prevailed public contracts by the Local Council under Mayor Alexiei Dingli, but that is not all. I have been approached by various public contract bidders of different businesses who told me that Alan Muscat even threatened them about their rival bids, with one of these individuals even ending up with their vehicles torched. Eventually, Alan Muscat’s winning streak in public contracts was slowed down when the Courts found him to have used fraudulent documents in his applications.
We’ve seen organised crime stories on TV in elaborately-crafted dramas and fictional stories such as The Sopranos but the reality of organised crime in Malta is very much apparent and even stereotypically identical. We have our own Fat Tonies.
Here is Fat Alan.
