At least two Russian shadow fleet tankers have anchored in Hurd’s Bank in what seems to be regular operations of illegal oil trading in the area. The tankers are the Fair Breeze and the Uluc Ka (featured photo by Vessel Finder) which both have been sanctioned.
Other ships currently anchored in Hurd’s Bank also have a history of suspicious activity that matches that of the Russian shadow fleet including the Kriti Legend.
Malta is currently requesting the EU Council naval support to keep risky ships, including the Russian shadow fleet tankers, away from our shores. The request was made following an attack on a Russian LNG-tanker outside of Malta’s shores. French and Spanish naval assets are also in Malta’s Grand Harbour.
