The White House has insisted that the US government is conducting negotiations with the Iranian regime after the Iranian regime denied that such negotiations were taking place. Yesterday, President Trump said that negotiations with the Iranian regime are ongoing and Pakistan also announced it was hosting talks between Iran and the US.
President Trump also threatened to blow up civilian infrastructure if negotiations fails. He once again threatened to blow up power-plants and now also threatened to blow up deslination plants. He also demanded for the immediate re-opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Earlier this morning, there was no change in tone by the Iranian regime as they threatened to target US and Israeli officials in the region and denied claims by President Trump about ongoing negotiations.
Yesterday, Iran launched a barrage of missiles at Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, most of which were intercepted. Israel launched a series of of airstrikes across Tehran and other cities targeting weapons factories and military facilities. During the weekend Israel also targeted the Isfahan University of Technology.
Meanwhile, Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken reiterated Europe’s position that Europe will only be involved in policing the Strait of Hormuz after a ceasefire is announced. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed except for friendly countries to Iran such as China and Pakistan.
