The Labour Party and the Nationalist Party are currently stoking a pseudo-controversy about drugs in Malta following a donation to football nurseries by the Authority for the Responsible Use of Cannabis. Both political parties are wasting our time with this pseudo-controversy. The Nationalist Party is speaking to its core voters with its conservative position while the Labour Party is highlighting this conservative aspect of PN to its core voters and the younger generations.
Meanwhile, there is a string of talk shows are being broadcast on the public broadcaster with the usual ex-drug addicts recounting their melodramatic and tear-jerking histories.
It’s all so tiring and nauseating.
There is, in reality, very little outrage about the things that matter. When it comes to drugs, Malta has a cocaine problem and if you think that this is because powerful drug traffickers are never prosecuted, you can thank the Prime Minister himself for that, who has enacted a law that led to the cancellation of criminal charges against his previous friend, business partner and cocaine trafficker Christian Borg.
Let me put it in simple terms for the sake of those who refuse to understand. How much of the cocaine sold by Christian Borg led to these deaths and how much of the money generated from this cocaine was laundered with the Prime Minister when he served as his lawyer?
