European leaders are calling for a swift approval of the €90 billion EU loan to Ukraine as well as the approval of the 20th sanctions package against Russia following a night of deadly attacks by Russia on Ukrainian cities. The airstrikes started yesterday at 7PM and have continued relentlessly as of writing.
Up to 16 people have been killed by Russian airstrikes on Kyiv, Odessa and other cities that included more than 700 drones and ballistic missiles. Ukraine is bracing for another night of attacks as Russia keeps deliberately striking civilians to pressure Ukraine to capitulate.
The EU loan and the sanctions package were vetoed by Hungary, but Viktor Orban’s successor, Peter Magyar has vowed to lift the veto and establish closer ties with Brussels.
Germany has pledged immediate aid to Ukraine including the purchase of Patriot missiles, while the UK and the Netherlands have also pledged more aid as weapons deliveries including drones are underway.
Meanwhile, Russia transitioning into a full-time war-economy and totalitarian state with troop mobilisation efforts also stepping up.
