In a press conference at the Nationalist Party headquarters, Opposition Spokesperson for Energy Mark Anthony Sammut warned that the government has no plan for the energy sector and is negotiating a gas supply-contract during a time of crisis when energy prices are higher. He said that the government’s lack of planning and delayed action has brought more risks and challenges for the country’s energy supply.
Mark Anthony Sammut referred to the energy supply-crisis of 2024 when a makeshift diesel-fueled power plant was constructed, and described it as a sign that the government was not planning, but even since then the government has delayed plans for energy supply and future supply agreements resulting in today’s challenges. The Opposition MP added that the government’s lack of planning in energy is adding more future risks to our energy supply.
Opposition MP Rebekah Borg stressed that energy diversification if important as she highlighted that the government failed to implement energy projects during the current legislature. Opposition MP Ivan Castillo reiterated that the government faced a crisis in planning as these important matters are being handled by management by crisis.
