Venezuelan Opposition Leader María Corina Machado has rejected an invitation by Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to meet him. In a press conference he said that his office is always open for her and he is still ready to meet her. The Venezuela Opposition Leader is meant to lead a major protest against the Venezuelan regime in Madrid, today.
The Spanish government has been one of the closest partners of the Venezuelan Chavista regime and has also defend Nicholas Maduro after he was abducted by the US earlier this year. Spain is also against sanctions on the Venezuelan government.
There are more than half a million Venezuela immigrants in Spain most of whom overwhelmingly oppose the Chavista regime in Venezuela. When Nicholas Maduro was arrested by US forces, most Venezuelans in Spain were out in force celebrating his arrest.
In a video recorded with Spain’s Opposition Leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo, María Corina Machado thanked the Spanish people for their support.
Meanwhile, Madrid’s Mayor Isabel Díaz Ayuso is on the offensive against the Spanish Prime Minister and has accused him of coddling up with dictators. She reacted to the Spanish Premier’s praise about China by reminding him that Chinese government is the biggest violator of state crimes in the world and that it is one of the countries which routinely jails and persecutes journalists.
Earlier this month, Premier Sanchez went to China and heaped praise on the totalitarian dictator Xi Jinping who described him “on the right side of history”. The extremely bizarre ingratiating comments came just after the Spanish Premier publicly clashed with President Donald Trump over the war in Iran.
Pedro Sanchez is increasingly being held to suspicion by his European allies and the US for prioritising relationships with communist and socialist dictatorships across the world instead of striving for Western interests and unity. Pedro Sanchez is also on a mission to revive the Socialist International.
