Vessel with stolen Ukrainian grain leaves Israel after Israeli Minister’s tirade about lack of evidence

The bulk cargo vessel Panormitis has letf the port of Haifa, Israel, allegedely, without unloading its cargo, according to the Israeli government. The Panormitis, which was loaded with stolen grain from Ukraine, had left from a Russian port in  Kavkaz. The Ukrainian government informed the Israeli government about the vessels arrival in Israeli up to a week in advance.

The Israeli government announced that Ukraine did not provide evidence to support its allegations, following a prolonged and public tirade by Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar regarding the alleged lack of evidence and formalities in the case. The vessel has now exited Israeli waters and is stationary with confirmation of its next destination still pending.

Haaretz published a long and detailed expose about the illegal grain purchases by Israel of stolen Ukrainian grain. Earlier this month, Israel allowed the unloading of stolen Ukrainian grain in the port of Haifa by the Russian vessel the Abinsk I.

The Ukrainian government has strongly protested against the ongoing trafficking of Ukrainian grain by Russia to Israel, but the Israeli government has been very reluctant to address the Ukrainian government’s demands. Israel has also been a regular purchaser of Russian oil and is a serial EU sanctions-violator.
