Ukraine’s Foreign Minister welcomes Malta’s position in support of a long-term ceasefire

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has thanked Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ian Borg over Malta’s support of Ukraine’s proposal to Russia for a long-term ceasefire. Ukraine’s proposal came after Russia proposed a ceasefire for May 8-9 while it holds its annual Victory Day parade in Moscow.

Ukraine has made a counter-proposal to Russia for a ceasefire lasting weeks instead.

A ceasefire would give Ukrainian civilians much needed respite from Russia’s daily bombings of cities and Ukrainian civilians.

Ukraine has nominated Turkey as mediator with Russia but ongoing mediations are still being conducted via the US administration.
