Drones supplied to the Rapid Support Forces by the United Arab Emirates have struck Khartoum’s International Airport and other sites in the city belonging to the military as of yesterday morning. The Sudanese government is accusing Ethiopia of its involvement in the attack and said that drones flew from Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar airport that is used by the UAE.
Drones supplied by the UAE to the RSF are often piloted by Colombian mercenaries hired by the UAE. This is the first time Ethiopia is being accused of being directly involved in an attack on Sudan in the ongoing war. Ethiopia has been increasingly involved the supply of the UAE’s weapons supplies to the RSF. UAE drones have also been spotted at Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar Airport.
The Ethiopian government has issued a statement denying its involvement. The UAE has not issued a statement yet but this is not the first time that the UAE coordinated drone strikes against major Sudanese cities.
Khartoum was liberated from the RSF last year and the government is attempting to resume its operations in the city as residents also return to their homes.
The UAE drone attack against Khartoum’s international airport comes as European leaders share messages of solidarity with the UAE over the recent attacks on the UAE by Iran.
The RSF have also recently conducted an attack on the city of Kosti in White Nile State and have been recently pounding the state of South Kordofan with drones and artillery
