The United Arab Emirates and the Rapid Support Forces have bombed civilian targets in Port Sudan including the city’s airport, an oil depot and two hotels. The hotels which were bombed are the Marina Hotel, located just 500 metres outside the Presidential Palace and the Coral Hotel which is frequently used by the foreign press and foreign dignitaries.
The RSF and the UAE are bombing Port Sudan in retaliation to an airstrike on the airport of Nyala in Darfur which is being used as drone base by the RSF. Military officials from the UAE are supporting the RSF in their drone operations and dozens of UAE military officials have been killed in multiple attacks on Nyala airport.
The drone attacks on Port Sudan started on Sunday and continued throughout yesterday. Some of the drones being used include the Chinese Sunflower drones and they are also being launched from locations outside of Sudan.
The attacks by the United Arab Emirates on Port Sudan with Chinese drones have been accompanied by a barrage of disinformation online by Emiratis accusing the Sudanese government of being affiliated with ISIS and Hamas.
