UPDATED: Industrial production keeps going down in Malta: exports increase due to oil exports

According to the latest NSO statistics, industrial production keeps going down in Malta with March industrial output decreasing by y 1.4% compared to the previous month and by 3.6% compared to March of 2025. The largest decrease was registered in the production of food and beverages, down by 11.9%.

Industrial production was also down with electronics and computer equipment but was up with rubber products and wood and paper products.

Industrial producer prices also went up significantly during March according to Eurostat, following the energy shock of the war on Iran, surging by 3.2% in the EU and 3.4% in the Euro area respectively.

Malta’s industrial production declined last year and continues to decline further this year with exports also trailing in the decline. Meanwhile, exports for the first quarter of this year have increased but the increased is attributable to oil exports, highlighting an increasing in bunkering operations by the local industry during the energy shock of the war against Iran.
