Industrial output in Malta goes back to declining trend in February after brief rebound in January: exports decrease

According to the latest NSO statistics, industrial production in Malta went down by 6% in February compared to the month in January and was 3.5% less than the same month of last year, indicating that industrial production has re-taken its downtrend trend after rebounding briefly in January.

The downtrend is mainly due to manufacturing which continued to decline in February by up to 4.3% with the sub-category of other manufacturing going down by 13%, followed by computer, electronic and optical products, and motor vehicles with 11.5% and wood, paper products and printing down by 1.4%.

Meanwhile, the downtrend in industrial production was also paired with a decrease in exports. According to the NSO, exports in February 2026 also decreased to โ‚ฌ324 million from โ‚ฌ373 million in January. February 2025 exports were at โ‚ฌ365 million.
