Maltese industrial production continues to decline in December 2025

Industrial production declined significantly in the month of December of 2025 declining by 6% compared to the same month last year continuing a decline that began in September according to the latest NSO statistics. The largest decline was marked in computers and electronics equipment.

2025 was a bad year for local manufacturing industries with various factories closing down mainly due to new US tariffs. Industrial production was also highly inconsistent but a downward trend has now become dominant. Production of food has remained consistently higher. Exports to Turkey have also helped offset the decline of exports to the US.

Meanwhile, the NSO also reported that according to the Industrial Price Index, goods produced by the industries in Malta were 0.1% cheaper compared to the same month last year.
