Tory Opposition Leader Kemi Badenoch has reiterated for accountability over the appointment of Peter Mandelson as British Ambassador to the US. A speech that Prime Minister Keir Starmer gave in East Sussex did not help to quell calls for action. In his speech, the Prime Minister apologised to the victims of Jeffrey Epstein and said that he was not aware of the extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.
The UK Ambassador to the US Peter Mandelson resigned from his post on September 11th only after an initial release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. The British Prime Minister previously defended the Ambassador and resisted calls for his resignation by the Tory Opposition Leader before the files were released. Prime Minister Starmer previously said that due diligence was fully followed with regard to his appointment.
Today, the Prime Minister’s claims that he wasn’t aware about the nature of the relationship between Mandelson and Epstein are less credible following the latest release of the files. The Conservatives are demanding for the resignation of those responsible for the appointment of Mandelson. The Conservatives are also calling for the resignation of Premier Starmer’s Chief of Staff, Morgan McSweeney.
