Momentum proposes €360 weekly minimum wage and independent institutions

Earlier this week, Arnold Cassola’s party, Momentum, released their manifesto making them the second political party to publish their manifesto after ADPD.

The manifesto focuses heavily on state reform but also contains a raft of measures on the economy.

The party’s focus is mainly on reforming the state and addressing the rule of law crisis, especially by making public institutions more independent and reducing executive power in every dimension, including employment, appointments, financing and the implementation of major projects.

The party is calling for a €360 per week minimum wage, which is substantially higher than the current level of around €230 per week. The party is also proposing a tax on vacant properties.

It is proposing a 25% corporate tax for companies that pay taxes on time and publish their filings. The party also has a very distinct proposal of introducing a new tax on companies whose workforce consists of 30% or more foreign workers. Momentum is also proposing restrictions on the influx of unskilled third-country nationals through quotas and labour-market planning measures.

The party is also proposing a complete renewable energy transition and the construction of offshore solar and wind farms.

Earlier this week, Momentum has also proposed turning Fort chambray into a public park.
