Corruption pays: the women elected to Parliament and those to be elected through the Gender Corrective Mechanism

Rosianne Cutajar, who featured heavily in the Labour Party’s general election campaign, has been elected to Parliament. She was investigated over corruption and money laundering over her “gifts” from Yorgen Fenech and the fraudulent ITS contract she acquired.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà and the Attorney General vetoed her prosecution.

On the other hand, Ramona Attard, Robert Abela’s trusted associate, who had been co-opted into Parliament, has failed to get elected but will be elected through the gender corrective mechanism.

ADPD Leader Sandra Gauci, who got up to 950 votes from her home district, will probably not be elected to Parliament.

The gender corrective mechanism has effectively served as a tool for the two major political parties to elect additional MPs, with these MPs often serving simply as rubber stamps for their party’s policies and actions.
